Happy Birthday Dr Suess!

3 March 2022

Yesterday we celebrated Dr Seuss' birthday by wearing hats to nursery! Our Early Learners created their own hats and decorated them with different materials and textures.

The children proudly wore their hats during story time, and used props and puppets when listening to The Cat in the Hat book. In the afternoon, we all played the pairs game. The children picked up cards in turn, trying to find the matching character.

These are easy-made activities and link to many areas of learning such as literacy, mathematics, personal social and emotional development. When creating these activities, the staff also had in mind the goal of active learning, which is one of the characteristics of effective teaching and learning. The idea behind active learning is that children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and then go on to enjoy achievements.

The Reception children also celebrated Dr Suess' Birthday by creating their own jigsaw puzzles! The children used pictures from the Dr Suess book, laminated them and then cut them up into different shapes. Everyone found this great fun and the children did extremely well, working independently and using their own ideas and imagination to create some fantastic jigsaw puzzles!
